Fun-Fact Fridays! 6

This week's facts will relate to body image. I believe it is important to be aware of these facts in order to aid and further prevent them!

1. 80% of women say that the images of women portrayed in media such as films, television shows, and magazines, make them feel insecure.
2. 42% of girls in the first through the third grades have expressed the desire to be thinner.
3. 81% of ten year olds, both boys and girls, are afraid of being "fat".
4. More than half of teenage girls are, or believe they should be, on diets.
5. About 3% of the teens who believe they should be on diets, go too far and become bulimic or anorexic.

These facts were incredibly astonishing to me, and motivate me further to push the HBC message to everyone affected by low self-confidence and body image concerns. The fact that girls as young as six or seven years old are feeling a need to be thinner is unacceptable. Facts number two and three are very much a testament to why the HBC program is something for everyone. This is not a gender or age issue, but a people issue. We all should have the ability to feel healthy, happy, and comfortable. Lets work to lower these numbers for a healthier, more confident life!
